NEW Book -- OPERATION: IMMORTAL SERVITUDE by Tony Ruggiero

What if Anne Rice and Tom Clancy had a baby—you would have Operation Immortal Servitude—a mixture of vampire lore set within the intrigue of the black operations of the special forces.  I wish I could take complete credit for that perfect analogy but the credit has to go to Tee Morris, a fellow Dragon Moon Press author.

Operation Immortal Servitude: from the declassified files of Team of Darkness is the result of an earlier book called Team of Darkness.  In essence we can call it the “revamped” version, no pun intended but I couldn't resist. The new book contains all of the original material from Team of Darkness, with some additional tweaking of course and also an additional 90 pages or so of new material that has been added.

What got me started on this concept was when I was in the Navy and was stationed with the Navy SEAL’s for a few years.  These individuals are what can be defined as one of the ultimate killing machines. The thought came to me what would make an even more perfect killing machine and the vampire naturally came to mind. The only problem that arose was how would you control a vampire?

What also interested me in writing this novel and the planned three sequels is that I wanted to see the vampire in a different type of role from just a traditional blood sucker. That is what I feel I have accomplished so if you are looking for a different type of vampire read—then this series is for you.

I have audio files and information about the sequels to Operation Immortal Servitude at my website: www.tonyruggiero.com

REVIEWS of TEAM OF DARKNESS
the first in this continuing series

"Tony Ruggiero delivers an entertaining and surprisingly compelling novel. I was especially impressed with his handling of military details. He gives the reader enough information without overdoing the technicalities. I found myself really wanting to find out what happens in the next chapter. "
          ~Paukla Sahraoul, Horror World Review

" Heart-pounding action starts from the beginning and never ceases till the end. If any book should be a horror movie, Ruggiero's should; for the story is one that will keep movie-goers glued to the screen. Hopefully, Ruggiero will pleasure his book-reading fans (like me) by writing a sequel to TEAM OF DARKNESS."

FEATURED BOOKS

Hi, my name is Tee Morris and my first book with Dragon Moon Press was MOREVI: THE CHRONICLES OF RAFE & ASKANA. Since that time, I have participated in the "COMPLETE GUIDE TO WRITING FANTASY" volumes and penned BILLIBUB BADDINGS and the Case of the Singing Sword, coming soon to a podcast near you in 2007. Yeah, I've been busy, and I've been having a ball every step of the way!

Right now, the big news for me is the upcoming podcast for Billibub Baddings. I couldn't wait any longer so on Valentine's Day, 2007, I will be launching the Billibub Baddings podcast.  Stay tuned at www.teemorris.com for more details!

What's LEGACY OF MOREVI About?
The second swashbuckling adventure of the Privateer Captain and the Black Widow--

Life in Morevi is hardly a "happily ever after" for privateer captain Rafe Rafton. As he deals with the animosity from the Ladies of the Blood and from his own daughter, Ashtari, his only ally is Morevi’s First Queen, Askana Moldarin. But soon, the peace they find with each other is shattered in a single night. Now, Morevi faces a threat far greater than that of political opponents or frontier rivals. As their realm stands on the brink of a war they cannot win, Askana and Rafe must risk another Riftcrossing while sending their daughter, the future Second Queen of Morevi, into hiding. However, the Great Game now stretches beyond the borders of Askana’s rule, and plans for the downfall of House Moldarin are set into motion...

REVIEW EXCERPTS

BILLIBUB BADDINGS AND THE CASE OF THE SINGING SWORD Morris cleverly plays the clichés of fantasy, detective, and gangster stories off of each other in a carefully plotted, subtly witty, action-packed thriller. I haven’t enjoyed a cross-genre detective story this much since Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

~Nth Degree Magazine
Highly recommended reading, Legacy of Morevi is sure to encourage the readers to continue their collection of Tee Morris science fiction and look eagerly toward the next title in this outstanding science fiction action/adventure series.

Deby Fredericks, author
The Magister's Mask grew from my frustration with what seemed like a "plague of sameness" in the fantasy genre.  When I went to the bookstore, everything on the shelves was almost exactly like the something I had already read.  In my youth and arrogance, I took it upon myself to write something that hadn't already been done before.

I started with a list of things I was NOT going to do: no dragons or unicorns, no ancient evil awakening after hundreds of years, no grand quest, no persecution of wizards, no magical artifacts. What I ended up with was
a fantasy/murder mystery set on a tropical island -- maybe because it was February when I started the actual writing!  I went for an anti-hero: a shy woman who doubts herself and must find the strength to stand up for what's right.  I also put a lot of work into the magic, because if the public didn't accept magic they would never believe justice had been done.

What I didn't realize was how few publishers are willing to take a chance on ideas that haven't been tried before.  Luckily for me, I found Christine Mains and Gwen Gades of Dragon Moon Publishing!

REVIEW EXCERPTS

Donna McMahan says The Magister's Mask is "smart and entertaining...set in a world somewhat reminiscent of Earthsea."

~Donna McMahan, reviewer for SFSite.
The Magister's Mask "a superbly original fantasy story" and said it's "a genre-spanning tale incorporating the best elements of a good murder-mystery with fantasy. And it's a stunningly good fantasy-mystery with a superb twist in its tail."

DRAGON MOON PRESS has contracted with Jana Oliver to publish books 2 and 3 for the popular Time Rovers series

My new book Strange Robby was released from Meisha Merlin publishing in June.  Esther Friesner says the book is "Like a cross between X-Files and NYPD Blues." Next year Laura J. Underwood and I have a gonzo mystery novel Bad Lands coming out from 5 Star Mystery. The cover kicks ass and I can't wait for this one to come out. Also in 2007 I will have a novel coming out from Dragon Moon Press - a fantasy novel titled SWORD MASTERS.
Selina Rosen, author of SWORD MASTERS

Erik Buchanan is a new Dragon Moon Press author.  So new, in fact, that his book hasn’t hit the shelves yet!  SMALL MAGICS introduces Thomas Flarety, whose first visit home from school in four years brings him face to face with a juggler who can create a ball of light from air, a Bishop who can control men with his voice, and a plot to steal what magic is left in the world. Editing is a long, tough job, and Erik would like to thank Briana, his editor, for her excellent eye, excellent work, and sense of humour.  Look for Small Magics, coming in 2007.

My novelette, "The Cypol", a sensual SF Thriller, an was just released by eXtasy Books this week. "In the not too distant future, when AIs take control of the Earth and impose inhuman laws on human behavior, men and women are forced to serve as their subjects. But not everyone is willing..."
Nina Munteanu, author of DARWIN'S PARADOX, (upcoming)

DRAGON MOON PRESS Authors do Novel-in-a-Month with NanoWrimo!NanoWrimo is a nonprofit author site which promotes writing for all ages and skill-levels. They're also a bit nutty, as you can tell by their challenge to the writing world. Picture this! Writers all over the world, scowling like mad, tried to pump out 50,000 words each--count them! Fifty thousand words!--in the month of November. Don't look down, just write! At the end of a month, bleary-eyed and brain-dead, we take stock and find that some of us actually managed to finish it, and all of us got a heck of a lot done. Are the books any good? Well, no, not yet. But with six months of revisions, who knows? We just might have a best seller on our hands. Among others, Bob Nailor, Valerie Griswold-Ford, JYT Kennedy, M. H. Bonham, and Jeanette Cottrell participated. Bob and Jeanette managed to complete the target and won the right to display the graphic at left. But the real prizes are the manuscripts we wrote, partial and complete!

Val Griswold-Fold -- I love the atmosphere of NaNo, and am already pondering a new project for next year!

Bob Nailor -- I've done NaNoWriMo six years now, winning the last five.  The first year was in hopes of healing since my father had passed away in October, but unfortunately, the duties of eldest son kept interfering and I was only able to get 35K of the 50k done.  Of the five years that I did win I've put the first  chapter of each out on my web for others to read. Check out my website, and scroll to the bottom of this page.

Jana Oliver's recent presentation to an Entertainment Marketing Class at Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, Georgia) quickly expanded beyond the classroom. When presented with a long list of questions, and short on time, Jana opted to take the conversation to her blog. Since the presentation, Jana has answered a number of the students' queries, ranging from "What do you like most/least about the current trends in the publishing industry? " to "Would you like for one of your books to become a movie?" And her favorite "If you were a shoe, what kind would you be?"

Episode 14 of the Sci Fi Traveling Road Show is available! Meet our latest guest, Tee Morris! Tee Morris has been writing adventures in far-off lands and far-off worlds since the fifth grade. Inspired by numerous volumes under the Choose Your Own Adventure title and Terry Brooks' Shannara series, he wrote many short stories of his own. He wrote his first novel, Morevi, the Chronicles of Rafe and Askana, with a co-author, Lisa Lee, which is an excellent podcast at podiobooks.com. Since then, he's authored Legacy of Morevi, Billibub Baddings and The Case of the Singing Sword, and co-authored Podcasting for Dummies with Evo Terra. He's also the host of The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy, a most excellent podcast.

What the Reviewers Say

EARTHCORE by Scott Sigler:  “Bad things happen to bad people in this book. Then they happen some more. Very. Bad. Things. Things that make you wonder just what sort of childhood the author must have lived through. No way I'm going caving with him anytime soon. Or letting him near knives in my presence.”
~Evo Terra, Host of XM Satellite and FM syndicated radio show “The Dragon Page.”

SOJOURN by Jana Oliver:  "Jana Oliver has created a complex world that combines science fiction with dark fantasy in an original refreshing novel. She has obviously done considerable research into Victorian London giving her story an authenticity and solid foundation from which she has created a superb tale."
~Eternal Night

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO WRITING FANTASY (Park and Dullemond, ed.): A Must Have World Building Reference Book   My husband is a publisher with little time to read for pleasure, so when I saw that the book he had purchased had quickly gone from "brand new condition" to "over worn and dog eared" I had to read it for myself... It covers the basics giving the reader fundamentally all the information that they would need to know to construct their own fantasy world from scratch and how to do so with confidence.
~Terry Bane, author of The Bloodthirsty Weasels: On the Loose and Buck Wild

THE LONGEVITY THESIS by Jennifer Rahn: "Who knew that the hallowed halls of academia were actually dark tunnels rife with intrigue, racism, murder and magic? The Longevity Thesis is Approved and Dr. Rahn graduates summa cum laude as the new face on the speculative fiction's Dean's List."
~Timothy Reynolds, Author of Stand Up & Succeed
