NEW RELEASE -- DARWIN'S PARADOX by Nina Munteanu |
I've
been writing Darwin's Paradox all my life, I think. No,
really...(crazy smile)...I started writing stories when I was
ten years old, amusing my older sister with tales of outer space
and aliens. Darwin arose from a love since I was a teenager for
science fiction.
Ray Bradbury, the dean of social comment and consumate storytelling, was (and still is) my hero. Darwin
actually evolved literally from a concept and a story I wrote
when I was seventeen (which I never did publish).
It's only
taken a few decades for Darwin to evolve into the form it is
now!
I was always fascinated by nature's ability to "perceive"
and align herself to changes imposed upon her. Lovelock's
concept of Gaia and how we humans relate to our "intelligent"
planet was always something I wanted to write about.
When
a classmate in university ecology half-seriously told me that
his ambition was "to make algae sing" I laughed. But then
something actually resonated with me. I started seeing evidence
for Nature's Intelligence everywhere. In chaos theory, fractals,
synchronicity, co-evolution and endosymbiosis...I also saw how
we separate ourselves from and abuse nature. But, even when
humans build a better mousetrap, nature always seems to build a
better mouse. That we are evolving is inevitable and
irrevocable. How and into what and through what means...that's
the open question for all of us.
What's
DARWIN'S PARADOX about?
A world on the brink of a
violent change. And one woman who can save it--or destroy it all...
When an intelligent virus and an intelligent
machine conspire to seize one of North America's largest cities
then threaten to spread world chaos, the only person who can
save humanity is the woman who started it all. Compelled by the
ambitious virus stirring inside her, Julie Crane returns to the
city from which she fled--accused of atrocity--to fulfill her
final destiny as Darwin's Paradox, the key to the
evolution of humankind.

Hybrids
"Munteanu [has] created an inventive and
exciting future...a mystery virus and unsettling artificial
intelligences...and an indomitable hero."~Kay Kenyon, author

PRAISE
FOR NINA'S PREVIOUS FICTION:
"Munteanu asserts her mastery of the
sensual SF romantic thriller. An unforgettable read that's
immensely alluring, surprising, and heart-throbbing. The vivid

characters leave one breathless and asking, when and where is
the next book coming out?" -- Yet Another Book Review Site

Oliver, author of SOJOURN. Dragon*Con
was a blast! We had a huge Chinese dragon (like the
kind you see during Chinese New Year) right across from us. Great
feng shui. Sherrilyn Kenyon was breaking in a new booth
design (pro trade show furniture) and it was fun watching her and
her folks try to figure out how to set it all up. They got it done
and it was dazzling.
Our setup was easier and allowed us to showcase all the attending
author's works (including Karen who couldn't attend but helped
support the booth). We changed the NOW SIGNING easel to display the
cover art
and books every thirty minutes depending who was in the booth. The
front of the booth was given over to display the books.
You never realize how many books Dragon Moon Press has out there
until you try to get them on one table. The only
downside was the little plastic stands that
displayed the books. They had a nasty tendency to collapse and take
out three our four neighboring displays all at once. Something to
rethink for next year.
Pip gave out New Zealand chocolates (very addictive) and entranced
everyone with her accent. Her stuffed Kiwis were a hit, especially
the one that made noises. We gave away a lot of trading cards,
talked to a lot of
people, etc. Our vast range of fiction impressed folks. Dragon isn't
known to be a literary con, but the sales were very strong.

Though the hours were long, the company was great. Tony, Tee, and
Scott all went the extra mile. (Yes, there were times they were all
the booth together!) Mary (Tony's fine lady) and my husband (aka
Mage) also assisted when we had to be at panels and there was no one
to cover the booth. As for tear down -- we were done in an hour.
Mary is the kind of lady you want to help
you move house. She packed boxes at a frenetic rate. We
jammed it all in the car and went to dinner with smug looks on our
faces.
All in all, it was a productive weekend. Excellent for
marketing, very good sales. High profile. Definitely worth the
effort.
