Nina Munteanu

Nina Munteanu Nina Munteanu (aka SF Girl, the galactic gypsy) grew up in Granby, Quebec (known for its zoo), the youngest of three children to immigrant parents from Romania and Germany. Nina had learned to read in five languages by the time she started primary school, which explains her interest in science fiction. After receiving her Masters Degree in Limnology at Concordia University, Nina moved to British Columbia where she taught biology courses at university and currently works as an environmental consultant in the field of limnology.

She lives in the outskirts of Vancouver with her husband, teenage son and bipolar cat. Nina is known in the blogosphere as SF Girl, or The Alien Next Door, the name of her popular award-winning blog that provides lively discussion on elements of science and science fiction, philosophy, and futurism, as well as spiritual and metaphysical issues.

Nina has published short stories all over the planet (e.g., Poland, Romania, Israel, Greece, Canada and the U.S.) and writes reviews of movies and books for magazines (e.g., The New York Review of Science Fiction, Strange Horizons, The Internet Review of Science Fiction; also check out her blog). Darwin's Paradox is her third novel, her book, Darwin's Paradox, an eco-thriller that explores the frightening prospect of an intelligent self-organized virus joined with a self-aware A.I. in a world preoccupied with issues of infertility and the residual effects of an industrial plague. Darwin's Paradox is Nina's third novel. Her previous fiction was nominated for the Gaylactic Spectrum Award, Ecataromance Reviewers' Choice Award, the Aurora Prix, and the Foundation of Speculative Literature's Fountain Award.

Sword Masters

“No woman will be considered for a post as a Sword Master.”

Tarius, the daughter of a great warrior, is determined to avenge the death of her father, Jabone, despite her country’s archaic rules of the place of women, or her breaking down those rules — especially the one that says women can’t wield steel.

The Amalites, mortal and ancestral enemy to the Jethrik, have slaughtered two of the greatest warriors the Jethriks have; Tarius’ mother and father. Her father’s cause becomes hers and like her father, she joins the Sword Master’s academy.

But, while her father kept only one secret from his family, she is keeping the deepest secret of all. When the head master’s beautiful, wilful, daughter Jena falls in love with Tarius, thinking she’s a man, Tarius knows an enemy’s sword, or spear, will not be her undoing.

Tarius leads the Jethrik armies to victory after victory against the maniacal Amalites, for her king. Even though she saved the kings life twice, this will not stop his wrath when he learns fully the truth behind Tarius and her skilled sword play.

Vernus wants the longevity effects for himself — the phenomenal power to telekinetically mold the thoughts of those around him.

With this virtually unlimited ability, he will then be able to control the helpless minds of the most powerful and rich individuals in the state.

A perfect plot, but with one challenge…

The crazed scientist must prevent Lord Jait, a mysterious man with psychic abilities he doesn’t understand or know how to use, from ruining his plans for total control.

When Antronos vows to help protect Lord Jait’s survival, he doesn’t realize that he has accidentally foisted himself into a place of grave danger — a pawn between two very powerful men — and that his own life is now seriously in peril!

More rightly, her uncle's enemies. And an enemy of her uncle is now surely her friend...or not.

Join Kathedra on her flight to freedom and journey of self-discovery. Meet her friends, her foes, her lovers...sometimes one and the same. Share her fight for justice and dreams of independence. And follow her to the thrilling conclusion where she learns who truly deserves to bear the title of The Gryphon Highlord.
